Irena McCammon Scott is the great-great-grandniece of John Purdue. She lives in Delaware County, Ohio, on a farm John Purdue is believed to have purchased in 1865 for her great-great-grandmother, Catherine Purdue McCammon, who was John Purdue’s sister.
She received a Ph.D. in physiology from the University of Missouri and then took a post-doctoral position at Cornell. She was an Assistant Professor of Biology at St. Bonaventure University, and has done research and teaching at the Ohio State University, the University of Missouri, and the University of Nevada. She has also been a correspondent for  Popular Mechanics magazine, with articles appearing in the  the "Technology Update" and "Science" Sections.  Her listings include Who's Who in the World, World Who's Who of Women, Who's Who in the Midwest.
